"We are 4x4 trainers with experience in marginal areas since 1979---we know what you need and why."

Here are just some of our goals, do they sound logical?

  • Drive any terrain with predictably and with an instinctive ability to account for worst case scenarios.

  • Drive any vehicle to it highest level and still keep it running and whole for the next mile or next job.

  • Be able to spot (MOG) your team member through any area under any conditions with or without NODS using only hand signals.

  • Recover a vehicle fast and safely with or without adequate equipment such as kinetic ropes, HiLift Jacks, Winches, pull pals, etc...

  • Learn and accept why driving slow and safe with a MOG means less time out of the vehicle and a faster average ground distance speed.

  • Learn which vehicle, if given a choice, is the best to "use" and why.

  • Is a demo lesson with a HiLift jack adequate?  At OEX you get two full days hands on under all conditions night or day.

OEX has been training military, national security forces and Security Companies for the last 8 years.

Bruce Elfstrom and his team have years of experience in marginal areas traveling or operating under threat.  He and his staff have experienced first hand what is needed out there.  "We know what its really like, from Afghanistan to Lebanon to home, its important you get someone with the know-how to do your training.  Do not settle for someone who has recently decided to change their training to adapt to the raising market of security force's needs.  We at OEX have been at this for in one form or another since 1979"

We at OXE not only know how to teach technical 4x4 and expedition driving, but we know why you do not want to get out of a vehicle, why its faster to have a MOG (Man On Ground) through and area rather than drive it fast, etc, etc, etc........  Experience counts..

If you need 4x4/SUV training for rough conditions to extremely marginal, then why go to someone with limited tactical experience, or to a car-like SUV driving school?

Driving with Night Vision equipment should not be taken lightly.  Motion sickness, tunnel vision, etc are always a concern, but add to this having a MOG, on a 40 degrees muddy and boulder strewn hill, and.....!.  We have years of experience with NODS and the various model changes.  We strongly suggest one to two nights minimum training for all team members.

"We could not have asked for better instruction, better personal, or a better know how of our needs than what Bruce and his team gave us over the last 8 days.  This is our 5th year using OEX.  He has given us some of our most valuable and frequently used skills beyond a doubt!"

Staff:

Bruce Elfstrom.  Bruce has been in and around marginal areas since 1979, from Beirut Lebanon to Central America, Bruce knows what its like, and more importantly, how to get you team, experienced or not, to see why.

Recent additions to OEX's staff will ensure we have a very current feel for your team is going, and what they need to know and do.

"this looks just like Afghanistan on a bad day, a bit like the Hindu Cush slammed into Moab!"

4 hours later and having left no trace of our passing, he commented

"I thought you were kidding when you said to drive through there.    That was just amazing  I can't believe we did it."

 -- Anonymous Military Officer, 2007

Vehicles:

We at OEX know what you use in the field and why.  We have Land Cruisers from 1976 - 2005.  Diesels, Land Rovers, Pajaros...all the 4x4 you will truly see and use when your "out there.".  From automatic gasoline V8s to manual low geared 4 cylinder turbo Diesels.  Driving a turbo diesel over difficult terrain is a whole different game than attempting it in an automatic V8 street SUV.

OEX's Vehicles:

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 1976

*Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 1986

*Toyota Land Cruiser BJ75 1987

*Toyota Land Cruiser FHZJ 1996

Mercedes UNIMOG 1980

In addition to our fleet, we have driven, fixed, pushed and slept in just about every 4x4 in the world, from Tahoes to Volvo Pups.

OEX is the only USA based training establishment that offers such a wide verity of real world 4x4 in which to train.

These are not "beeters" either, but well maintained machines with no modifications to fairly modified for off road use.

Costs:

Here are a few things to consider.  At OEX we used a purposed built course.  Everything you need it just 1/4 a mile away.  There is NO DOWN time.  Each and every road you drive is packed with obstacles.  You will not waist your time driving mono-road BLM land or gravel drives.  In one day you will do 2 - 4 times the obstacle compared to other "schools."

We pride ourselves in offering our training for a fair price.  We do not see a need or a reason to charge outrageous fees to government forces or security companies just because we think we can.  Our philosophy is that your team members need this to stay safe and sound to their best ability.  We feel this is our way of helping them stay that way to the best of our abilities.

Our base instruction starts at 4 days and can go as long as you feel necessary.  We limit out classes to 12 individuals unless prior arrangements have been discussed.  We feel any more than 12 deters from our goals and objectives.  Average sessions are 5 days for driver training.

Over the last 7 years an average cost depending on the curriculum in question is approximately $500 a day per person.  We pride ourselves in our ability to customize our classes to your needs.  We are a 4x4 school and consulting organization.  We know what we do the best and focus on that.  However, OEX is not a one stop shop, we train for tactical 4x4 use in extreme conditions in rough terrain for short or extended duration assingments.  We do not pretend to be good at anything else and therefore do not offer high-sped car-like SUV training, skid pad, etc.

You will leave here knowing your team can move under appalling conditions, under threat and through "impassable" areas all the while safely, predicable, and efficiently.
