days you will learn the fundamentals of 4x4 driving in marginal terrain.

literature handouts teach you why you need to do what you need to do:
Recently dubbed the "Why You Never Spin a
Wheel Talk" will cover the mysteries and nuances of the:
Differentials, suspension, engine/throttle control, torque and
gear choice, tire selection and manipulation............ 45 min.

Your 4x4 and the Environment. Bruce Elfstrom a multi-degree
research biologist and ecologist is the only 4x4 instructor in the
world qualified to teach you the why's and why not's of 4x4 use off
the highways.

Behind the wheel for the remainder of the day.

Driver positioning and seatbelt positioning particulars: What
button and what lever does what. Why do you use it and when.

Basic transfer case, and four wheel drive system
implementation/switching choices

Vehicle familiarization.

High to low and low to high range transitions.

OEX 5-Step Method familiarization.

Base emergency maneuvers: failed hills, side-slope recoveries, mud-rut
crabbing, high centering.

Obstacle analysis: The "must" of walking before you drive.

Step by step attempt obstacle familiarity: Hills, Ditches,
Side-slopes, Moguls, Sand, Mud, Water, and Rocks 101.

Progressive obstacle tries: From basic and theoretical to
complex and reality based difficulty. Drive, drive, drive.

Recovery Introduction 101: Situational assessments, recovery
types and equipment. Hi-lift jack, winching, kinetic ropes,
ladders, spotter ropes, D-shackles, tree-saver stapes, bumper yolks.
Driving School 1 is offered at our private custom-designed Course at Hadlyme,
Connecticut. You may drive a vehicle from our fleet of
vehicles or
use your own vehicle. |
